Born in Santiago Chile, to Argentine parents, I carried the culture of South America with me when my family moved to New York City when I was five. Growing up at the intersection of Argentinian culture, Jewish traditions, and NYC's endless energy shaped my worldview in the most beautiful ways. Family adventures across Latin America opened my eyes to different ways of life and sparked what would become a lifelong passion for social and environmental justice.
These days, you can find me chasing powder at Mount Baker (where I first fell in love with snowboarding!) or catching waves along the Olympic Peninsula's wild coast. When I'm not climbing rocks, exploring backcountry trails, or paddling through the Salish Sea, I'm probably tending to my garden, cooking up new recipes, or losing myself in a good book. Since moving to Bellingham in 2019, I've found my heart's work at Vamos, where I get to blend my commitment to language justice and outdoor access with building the kind of inclusive outdoor community I've always dreamed of.What brings me the most joy? Creating spaces where everyone feels welcome in the outdoors, speaking Spanish with our participants, and watching people discover their own connection to nature – all while working alongside this amazing Vamos family.

Rebeca is from Tlaxcala, Mexico and immigrated at the age of nine. She grew up in Manson, WA until she moved to Bellingham. As a first-generation migrant student in the United States, she is the first and only individual in her immediate family to earn a bachelor’s degree. “I understand the struggles most youth of color face and continue to face. I understand how difficult it is to break cultural diversity, language barriers, and social injustices.” She grew up with a single mother who has worked in agriculture since their arrival in the US. The most important lesson she learned from her migrant family is the meaning of hard work. Rebeca has always been fascinated by the outdoors and being in Bellingham has allowed her to embrace her passion for exploring. She hopes to serve as a bridge between children and the unlimited possibilities and resources Bellingham has to offer.

For Walter, connecting to the Outdoors was instrumental in changing harmful scripts that life had convinced him were true.
Now, Walter feels so lucky to work for an organization that delivers the same life-saving programming that steered the course of his life for the better.
When not playing outside, Walter enjoys laying on carpet, ignoring the dishes, and losing in chess.

Emily deeply values the mix of cultures she was raised in, growing up bouncing back and forth between Santa Fe, New Mexico, and San Rafael, Costa Rica. These two places shaped her into the nature lover, chile eater, and outdoor recreator she is today. She is passionate about connecting people to the outdoors, which is how she found her way into filmmaking, first sharing the adventures she would go on and eventually working for a production company focused on outdoor recreation storytelling. Currently, she works as the Digital Media Manager at Whatcom Land Trust, and outside of work, you can find her mountain biking, climbing, skiing, and playing with her dog, Juni.
